Silane Coupling Agent Crosile189 3-Mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane in Sealants
Chemical Properties
Crosile®189 3-Mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane is a water-white to light straw-colored liquid. It is a mercapto-functional silane that can be used as a coupling agent in polysulfide and polyurethane caulks and sealants.
Crosile®189 is especially suitable for sulfur cured and metal oxide cured elastomers. Chemically bonding reinforcing minerals such as silica, clay, mica, and talc to the polymer matrix improves the modulus, tensile and tear strength, heat build-up, abrasion resistance, resilience, compression, and compression of mineral-filled elastomers properties such as permanent set and cure time.
Crosile®189 can be used as a pre-treatment agent for minerals or added during blending. As a fairly efficient and fast sulfur-containing silane, lower silane loading levels are generally used.

Application
When Crosile®189 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane is substituted for the commonly used polysulfide-type silanes, low rolling resistance silica-reinforced tread compounds can achieve improved or equivalent performance at lower silane loading levels.
When substituting 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane for slower curing polysulfide type silanes, mineral reinforcements such as shoe soles, rubber rollers and wheels, white sidewalls, wires and cure accelerator systems may be required as well as increased Sulfur Donor Concentration.
Crosile®189 Silane has sulfhydryl functional group, which has a special effect as a rust inhibitor on metal surface. Using it to treat metal surfaces (such as gold, silver, copper) can enhance the corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance of the surface, and improve the adhesion of polymers (such as resins) to it.
In the rubber industry, Crosile®189 Silane is usually used to deal with inorganic fillers, such as silica, carbon black, glass fiber, mica, etc., which can effectively improve the mechanical properties and wear resistance of rubber.
In the textile industry, Crosile®189 Silane can be used for shrink-resistant finishing of fabrics.
