Application
-
Production of Modified Polyethylene: Vinylsilane Crosile® 171 is used as a monomer for producing modified polyethylene with different densities and co-polymer structures. It allows the fine-tuning of the final properties of the polymer, such as block-copolymer with a comb structure or linear structure.
-
Cable Shields and Electrical Resistances: The modified polymers derived from Vinylsilane Crosile® 171 find applications in cable shields and electrical resistances. These materials offer improved properties suitable for electrical insulation in certain types of cables and water pipes in under-floor heating installations.
-
Cross-Linking Agent for Polyethylene: Vinyl Silane Crosile® 171 is used as cross-linking agents in the manufacturing of cross-linked polyethylene (PEX). The alkoxysilane moiety in Vinylsilane reacts with water, forming silicon-oxygen-silicon bonds that cross-link the material and cure it. Moisture-curable polymers, including PEX, are commonly used as electrical insulation and in water pipe applications.
-
Coupling Agent/Adhesion Promoter: Vinylsilane Crosile® 171, along with amino-functional and epoxy-functional silanes, serves as a coupling agent or adhesion promoter. It is used for treating glass fibers and particulate minerals to enhance their bonding strength with resin. The silane group in Vinylsilane forms a covalent Si-O-Si bond with the glass substrate, while the resin reacts with the vinyl group, amino group, or epoxy group, leading to stronger bonds and improved mechanical properties in fiberglass production.
