Modification of C5 Petroleum Resin
01 | Hydrogenation modification
Hydrogenation modification is mainly to introduce hydrogen gas when the resin and solvent are mixed in the production process, and after cooling, hydrogenated petroleum resin is formed. Under the action of the catalyst in production, hydrogen can be generated, so that the hydrogen can be recycled and the reaction speed can be accelerated. The hydrogenated petroleum resin obtained by adding hydrogen has better chromaticity, making it discolored or transparent, which effectively improves the phenomenon that the petroleum resin exhibits darker colors such as yellow-brown due to the incorporation of other impurities. This is more conducive to its use in hot melt adhesives and tapes.
02 | Chemical Modification
The introduction of polar groups can achieve chemical modification of petroleum resins. Due to the low softening point of C5 petroleum resin, many scholars have conducted research to improve the softening point of petroleum resin through various methods. Improve; use maleic anhydride and initiator to improve C5 petroleum resin to obtain diesel flow improver; and use dicyclopentadiene with multiple double bonds, high softening point, and narrow molecular weight to conduct aromatic hydrocarbons, phenols, alcohols and other compounds. Polymerization to produce resins with various properties makes petroleum resins more widely used.

01 | Application in Adhesives
Adhesives are required in the production of hot melt adhesives and pressure-sensitive adhesives, and the addition of C5 petroleum resins to the adhesives can greatly increase the viscosity of the adhesives, such as C5 hydrogenated petroleum resins because of their strong peel adhesion, better fast track and low price, and gradually replace rosin resin and terpene resin, which reduces the cost, so it is used more and more in pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes and medicinal adhesives.
02 | Application in road marking paint
Hot-melt Road marking paint is mainly used when using road marking paint, which has become a popular road marking paint because of its low cost, fast drying, good durability, no solvent and wide application. This hot-melt road sign is mainly made by mixing glass beads, pigments, inorganic fillers, plasticizers and thermoplastic resins, because the addition of petroleum resin makes the road marking paint thermal stability, durability, weather resistance and other properties greatly improved. 03 | Application in synthetic rubber
Hydrogenated petroleum resin and piperylene petroleum resin are widely used in rubber processing and production in my country. Adding C5 petroleum resin as a tackifier to the production of rubber products can effectively improve the strength and formability of the rubber and improve the quality of the rubber. Especially in the production of butyl rubber inner tube, it can effectively prolong the service life of butyl inner tube by using its characteristics of less interference to vulcanization.
04 | Applications in the paper industry
The sizing agent used in the papermaking process can be replaced by C5 petroleum resin instead of rosin resin. Paper made with sizing agent added with petroleum resin is not suitable for bubbles, and is relatively smooth and easy to print. However, maleic anhydride is added when the sizing agent is prepared from petroleum resin, and the carboxyl group is introduced through the addition reaction to achieve the purpose of modifying it.
